Day 14 - WE DID IT!

The Making of a Service Dog Team - Suzan & Logan's two week team training

Woohoo!!! We passed the public access test with flying colors!!! Suzan and I are an official service dog team with an ID and everything! To celebrate we all had steak tonight - even me!

Thank you everyone for all your encouragement and kind words over the past two weeks. It really helped to get over the rough spots. Suzan says that the biggest thanks should go out to my puppy raisers, the Beaman family for all their love and dedication in raising me to be the best service dog partner I can be. Being a puppy raiser requires a LOT of time and effort and they opened their hearts and home to me and to Suzan and Jon too. Suzan said we are especially lucky because our two families were brought together because of me!

I will continue my blog (but probably not every day, that's a lot of work!) to let you know what we are up to. We will be doing our first demo tomorrow for the My Wonderful Dog kids' summer camp. Suzan's a little nervous, she doesn't like speaking in public but she's hoping that because it's about me it will be easier. I will try to help her. That's what I do. I AM A SERVICE DOG!

Congratulations Logan! We knew you would pass with flying colors. I'll bet that steak dinner was yummy. And a new vest next week with a zippered pocket! I sure hope your Mom gets a nice picture of you modeling this with your new SERVICE DOG patch.

I know you will both do great at the camp tomorrow. Again, congratulations!

Hooray Logan!!!!!! You did it,( as if any doubts existed) we are so happy for you, and your Mom.
We really needed some good news today and this is the best.
We will continue to follow your blog, we know it's a lot of hard work, so whenever you have idle paws, please let us know how everything is going and what great stuff you and your Mom are doing.

Dear Logan & Suzan,

Gracie here, I am a golden retriever also. I am a Therapy Dog. I know about the testing stress, and I didn't have to learn all of the difficult things you learned. My Mom has been reading your blog to me. I have been so impressed with all of the things you have learned to do. You must be one smart dog - then again, all of we goldens are extra smart! Don't tell my brother I said that, he is a sheltie/collie mix. I love him very much, but you and I know goldens are special even if Mom loves he and I both the same.
Congratulations on becoming an official Service Dog!! That is so exciting - you worked very hard for this, and it must feel so good to know that you can help your Mom to do things that are difficult for her. You earned that steak, I hope you savored every bite.
I hope we get to meet some day soon - maybe we can play together some time.

Love, Gracie CGC, TDI; Mr. Mink; Miss Misty (she's the grey cat who thinks she's a golden that got the wrong fur!) & Mom, Carol

Logan (and Suzan)- We are so proud of you both. You make a wonderful team. My dears, we watched every step of your 2 week training and rejoiced when you succeeded and tried to strategize when you hit bumps. We prayed for your success and that Logan would show the depth of service dog that we knew she is and would be. Logan, you will always be our sweet girl and we will always watch for your success and be there in any way to help over a bump. We love you both. Through all of the notes and the trials - it was only when "Logan" said that she was there to help and "I AM A SERVICE DOG" - that I got really choked up. You are a service dog team and our hearts go out to you both and applaud you. We look forward to seeing you, but mostly look forward to your growing bond and your deep happiness in doing what you have been destined to do, with the best partner you could ever have. Our love always,
Your foster family always - Team Logan, Beaman Crew

Way to go, you two! Now the real fun begins. There will be so much to learn together, so many sweet moments. Logan - you were right on when about the public speaking. Before Belle came in to my life, I would rather eat tacks than speak in public. But something wonderful happens when it comes to telling others about Belle and what she can do, and will learn to do. There's so much to share that before I know it, my time is up and I realize the only emotion I didn't have while I was speaking was fear. I hope it will be the same way for Suzan.

Congratulations!
